Australia Day or Robert Burns night?
Australia day actually landed on the same weekend as Robert Burns night in Scotland, where we dress in tartan, eat haggis and listen to bagpipes. Robert Burns night is probably bigger than the St.Andrews day. Robert Burns was a very famous Scottish poet and is a huge part of Scottish culture. Throughout school, we learnt his poems and most famously, Auld Lang Syne.
Eat street markets – Brisbane
We went to Brisbane’s Eat street market, which was the most amazing food market I think I have ever been too. On the outside it looked like large pieces of Lego, built up of brightly painted shipping containers, inside it was a lot more open and the containers made up the walls with an open roof. (My first thought was what do they do if it rains? But it’s Australia and it apparently doesn’t rain an awful lot).
The Whitsundays – Australia travels continued
This weekend we visited the Whitsundays, we boarded a one-night two-day boat called ‘Summertime’, we booked this trip whilst we were staying at our hostel in Cairns and managed to get it for $100 cheaper than what was being advertised in the brochure (obviously down to our Scottish charm).
Arriving in Australia
Not going to lie, when I realised the travel time was 31 hours to Sydney I thought oh great I can sleep the whole way. But in reality, sleeping on a plane is near impossible when you have children in the row behind you and you’re sat in the middle seat of the row.
